My goal as a Web Designer is to offer my clients tasteful web
design services at very competitive prices. When I design
a web site, I strive to create a web site that is both
aesthetically pleasing when viewed and easy to navigate. I
understand people of all ages with varying levels of
internet experience surf the web. A senior citizen should
have just as much success when searching on line as the high
school student that has years of internet experience. Too
often I have searched the web to find sites designed by novices
with very little knowledge or experience which shows in the
design and set up of their web site. Most of the
time, these novice or self-ordained web designers do not
understand the importance of SEO or "Search Engine
Optimization". A web site is of no use if those searching
for a particular product or service cannot find the site.
Without SEO, the only way to be found on line, is to pay very
high advertising costs which is not feasible for most new
internet businesses. A few important points to
remember when searching for a web designer are listed below.

* If you
are quoted an almost unbelievably low price for the
design and set up of a new web site, you may end
up with a unattractive and unprofessional looking site
that most likely will be difficult to find by those
searching for your product or service.
* Although bargain basement pricing is not
good, nor should those wishing to start a web site feel
pressured into paying thousands of dollars for a web
site.
* If your web designer does not openly
explain how your site will work, you may believe you are
getting support and services that you are not.
* Ask if "Search Engine Optimization" is part of
the design service. If not, this will add to costs
later on in order for your site to be found by those
searching for your product or service.
Again, what good is a web site if your clients cannot
find it?!
* Will your web designer support you and your site
in the first few months after your domain is up and
running? Most new web sites need content added or
changed more often when the site is new. A mistake
commonly made by web site owners is believing they can
edit their own site after the initial start up or that
they can have a "friend" who knows a "bit" about it work
on the site for them. This usually leads to web
site owners realizing it can take years to properly
learn how website editors work, the editor they used is
now outdated or they end up paying dearly later when
their "friend who helped" actually ruined their website!
* If your
web designer insists on owning or selling you the site
or domain, you may be locking into a long term
relationship with the designer. Many times the
only way to get out of this sort of arrangement is to
pay much more money for your domain name and web site or
even losing your investment and starting all over again
with another site and domain name.
*Ask for references!!

I prefer to
design my own web pages and avoid the use of templates.
Templates are very limiting as to content and choices for web
sites. New templates can add to the cost of a website.
Free or cheap templates are usually outdated or unattractive.
